Twitter Isn’t Dying
Despite the rumors, hashtags and outbursts you may have seen while scrolling through your feed – Twitter isn’t dying.
Individuals and digital marketing firms use social media as a means for connecting with friends, family, customers and businesses in our increasingly digital world. Social media is incredibly personal despite how publicly it displays human emotion, thoughts and experiences.
Users React to Proposed Changes
As a result of how personal social media can be, users get defensive any time a change is proposed. Recently, Twitter has been under scrutiny from its devoted users because of proposed changes to its feed settings.
Vanity Fair says Twitter considered changing to “an algorithmic ordering, much like what Facebook does, allowing Twitter to choose what users see based on popularity and relevance.” Users did not like the idea of losing their real time news feeds and took up the hashtag #RIPTwitter to say goodbye to the social media platform.
As a result of how dependent we are on social media and networking, changes in our digital lives tend to get blown out of proportion. For many marketing firms and individuals, Twitter has been central to personal and professional branding campaigns.
Tweet On, Users
The Washington Post says all the grief Twitter has received is evidence of what happens when a publicly-owned company proposes changes. Since the company announced changes to its platform, its earnings have fallen and CEO Jack Dorsey is trying to put investor and users’ minds at ease.
Dorsey used Tweets to reassure users that the site is not dying and is not changing its feed settings. Vanityfair.com says the CEO was engaged with users and welcomed feedback on how Twitter services can be refined.
The digital age of marketing is in full force, and people are more dependent on social media now than ever. Whether you are an individual or one of the firms across the US using social media to brand yourself, your clients or connect with the rest of the world — let’s stop, take a breath and think before we let our minds run wild with the thought of a major social media platform dying.
