Troubleshoot Windows 7 Problems

With almost 76% of Windows users using Windows 7, it is among the most popular Windows 7 operating system for Microsoft. The unique features and faster speed has been the cause of its success. But, like any other operating system, Windows 7 users also face many problems. It is necessary to troubleshoot these problems as soon as possible for smooth working of your system.

There are many troubleshooting techniques that can be used by users to detect and fix the common problems in your system. Here are some of the techniques that can be used:

 1)      Windows built-in Troubleshoot Tool

 Whenever you face any problems with Windows 7 or your system misbehave, the first step to any troubleshoot any problem is to try Windows built-in Troubleshoot tool. This may solve or at least help in checking the issue. In Windows 7 version, the troubleshoot toll is in Control Panel which is a replacement for Help and Support option in its predecessor OS version.

 Open Troubleshooting component from Control Panel. There are many groups in order to find search, detect and fix the problem, if possible. The groups in this tool are:

 ·         Programs: This option checks for the compatibility of different programs. Also it helps in troubleshooting printers, Media Player, and Internet Explorer.

 ·         Hardware and Sound: Use this option to scan for hardware changes and troubleshoot problems with general devices, printers, network adapters, and audio devices.

 ·         Network and Internet: With this option you check and detect the problem related to the Internet or accessing shared files and folders on a local area network. Also you can troubleshoot Homegroup, incoming network connections, and DirectAccess.

 ·         Appearance and Personalization:  Any problems with Windows Aero desktop visual effects issues can be solved via this option.

 ·         System and Security: Issues with Windows Update, power settings, check system performance issues and run cleaning up unused files and shortcuts. Also check search problems and performance settings.

 You can click on any group name and troubleshoot it to check for any problems. However, this troubleshooting option lists only few categories. There are many factors still missing which can create problems in your Windows 7 operating system

 2)      Device Manager

Another alternative is to troubleshoot from the Device Manager. Right-click Computer and click Properties. The Device Manager option is on the left side of the window. Right Click and it will show you the list of devices that might have caused the problem. Choose Properties. If any device shows error, start troubleshooting.

 You can also reinstall the drivers for the devices and eliminate any future problems.

 3)      Perform a Clean Boot

With hardware, even the tiny problems can create huge problems. Sudden shut down or start up problems is difficult to eliminate. Clean Booting can help in preventing these problems. This solution is best used by experienced user who can easily diagnose the source of problem.  The procedure for performing a clean boot is as follows:

 ·         Save and close all open programs.

·         Click Start and enter ms msconfig.

·         In General tab, choose Selective Startup

·         Check that the Load Startup Items check box is cleared.

·         Click the Services tab.

·         Select Hide All Microsoft Services and click the Disable All button.

·         Click OK and click Restart to reboot.

·         To return to normal startup after diagnosis, open the System Configuration Utility.

·         On the Services tab, click Enable All.

·         On the General tab, choose Normal Startup and click the OK button.
