Get Your Netgear Router Installed

A wireless router is a device that acts as a bridge which joins the computer and modem and helps connect your wireless devices such as laptop, Smartphone etc. to the internet wirelessly. Netgear router is one of the most trusted brands of routers today. Founded in 1996, Netgear is a US manufacturer of several types of wireless connection, offering different ranges and options for home as well as business use.  They offer routers with every advanced feature and price range.

Each Netgear Router has specific lights that depicts a particular feature of your Netgear Router.   There are five lights on your Netgear Router which indicates the following:

1) Power – This indicates whether your router is connected to main power supply or not. If it is not lit, then you should check it’s adapter.

2) Ethernet – This indicates whether an Ethernet cable is connected to your router or not. In case, you are using wireless connection then this does not hold much importance.

3) Wireless – This indicates whether you are wirelessly connected to a network or not. If you are using a wired connection then this does not hold much significance.

4) DSL – This indicates whether your modem connection is activated or not.

5) Internet – This indicates whether the internet connection is active or not.

Connecting a wireless router with a Windows client is an intricate task. There are various things to be kept in mind while setting up the router and one wrong step can create problems. Set up your Netgear Router:

Here are the basic steps to connect your router to your device:
1)     
Connect your Netgear router to your modem
2)     
Plug up one end of your Ethernet cable into the computer and another into one of the ports of the router.
3)     
Open Internet Explorer browser and type http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.1.1 in the address bar. This address differs according to the router model number.
4)     
Type the 'admin' in the username field and 'password' in the password field. Click 'OK'.
5)     
A screen will appear. Select 'Wireless settings' on the left side of that screen.
6)     
Type a name for your wireless network in the SSID field.
7)     
Select the correct regional settings from the available channels and click on ‘Apply’.

Secure your Netgear Router.

  • To secure your network, again launch your Internet Explorer Browser and type either http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.1.1 on the address bar, according to your router’s model number.
  • Type username and password.
  • Select 'Wireless settings.' Select WEP under 'Security options'.
  • Under security type, choose 'automatic'. Choose the highest option offered for encryption strength.
  • To configure the wireless client, open ‘Control Panel’ and click on ‘Network and Internet Connections’. Select ‘Network’.
  • Right click on ‘Wireless Connections.’ Click on Properties on the menu and go to ‘Wireless Networks'.
  • Again, right click on 'Wireless connection', select ‘view all wireless networks'.
  • The list of networks will come. Choose your network and type the network key.

You are now wirelessly connected to the Internet.
