Through the definitions we can see the concept has many dimension in itself. According to Scholte (1997),these can broadly be classified into 6 categories which namely are communication,  the growth and expansion of business enterprises,  regulatory bodies that works inter country borders, trade and flow of the good between two countries,  the financial institutions through which the money flows.  And finally and most importantly the belief that now the world is a single place which is divided into various boundaries through which communities are built based upon the aspects of some ideology and culture.

There are a lot of factors which helps in boosting tourism.  But it mainly depends on the communication and technology. These two factors help in the movement of money and movement of people around the world. There are various market factors too which shape the tourism of a country.

These market factors are demographic, social environment, technological advancement, financial planning development etc.  These all factors contribute to the tourism industry.  The development is seen in the aspects like marketing of the place, reservation system through online, and various products which are now offered around the world. (Gee 1997).

From the above introduction, we can say that tourism is one of the main component which helps in the process of globalization.  The growth of this industry is measured by the inflow of the people, the total inflow and outflow of money, the number of holiday destinations around the world, the number of people employed etc.  (Mowforth & Munt ,2003).

Relationship between Globalization and Tourism

Apart from being a source of employment, it also creates huge employment in the country. According to a World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), the industry generated 77.3 million jobs in the year 2009. It also plays an important role in world GDP.  It contributed to a total of almost 10% of the world GDP.  All these growth opportunities which are lying untapped provide a huge opportunity to the countries to focus on their tourism and hospitality.

The most important opportunity which the sector provides is the opportunity to revive itself. These were a few circumstances when the demand for the tourism sector declined especially in the cases of world financial crises, terrorist attacks, or military conflicts in Afghanistan or Iran, but the industry resurges itself from these entire crisis.

This industry is a quick recover so it becomes very important for an economy. Another factor which has lead to the growth of tourism industry is the changes in the behavioral pattern. This pattern could include increase frequency of travel, short holidays with the family, and trip to a not so expensive place. These patterns have changed the way of various industry working. The focus of airlines has now shifted to become low cost and no frill carrier providers.  There is a whole new concept of DO IT URSELF. This has leaded to various innovations the field of marketing as well as product development.

The number of tourists has been increasing and last year saw a upsurge of 4.5%or 36 million tourists. This increase of the 36 million tourists was distributed over tourism regions as follows: Europe (17 millions: 47%), Asia and Pacific (12 millions: 33%), Americas (3 millions: 8%), Africa (3 millions: 8%), and Middle East (1.5 million: 4%) (WTO 2007).
