Modern Day issues in Health and Social Care Sector
When it comes to Health and Social Care, Media plays
an important role in communicating important information in urgent times of
emergency like a disease outbreak or a natural calamity like floods. Chances
are very likely of a disease outbreak after floods. Media has proved itself in
these urgent times.
Government introduces new health and safety legislation and social care policies every now and then. It is important for the people to be aware
of the latest changes in the policies, procedures or legislations. Here comes
the role of the Media. Media ensures the information reaches to the last person
in the line. By means of Television, Radio and internet, spreading information
has become so easy.
But it's important that every person should get the correct
information about the health and social care changes. There should be a
systematic procedure for the flow of
information between the govt. and the people. The information which is to be
broadcasted must be authentic, easy to understand and relevant.
There needs to be a regulatory body that controls
all the procedure regarding the health and social care information
broadcast. The regulatory body should
issue guidelines to monitor the flow of information and also, to ensure that
the information broadcasted is authentic, true, is of good quality and non-editable.
The information must reflect the views of the majority of doctors as well as it
should be based on the latest research developments in the lab. The exercises
suggested also needs to be verified by a registered professional. The regulatory body should work on the principles of ethical decision making, keeping in mind welfare of the people. Also, there should not be unnecessary advertisements of medicine producing giants.
While broadcasting government schemes, media outlets
should ensure that all the data is accurate i.e. the interest rates, age
restrictions, validity of scheme and the complete procedure to avail the
respective scheme. NGOs and other bodies, which are running health and social care
movements should be trained according to the guidelines issued by the
regulatory body so that their broadcasted information should not differ with
that of the media outlets.
