There are many hazards in this world, and sometimes it's easy to forget that many such threats come from everyday objects. On occasion, here in Salt Lake City, Utah and across the country, these hazards can even cause a need for a lawyer, who specializes in injury and wrongful death law. One such example of this is a recall made by Toshiba, with regards to the batteries used to power the company's laptops.

The Major Issue

The recall for these battery packs, is affecting laptops both in Salt Lake City and across the world. The initial problem is that the batteries, which are in Toshiba's notebook computers, are overheating. In some cases, the batteries may even catch fire or explode. If you have a liability case that stems from an incident involving a computer battery, consider contacting a lawyer who specializes in injury and wrongful death law, to help you meet your needs.

The initial recall came form the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The potential danger is so great that consumers were warned to shutdown their computers, remove the battery and only use the laptop when they could plug into an outlet. Failure to heed these warnings could result in the need for a lawyer, who specializes in wrongful death and injury cases.

What to Do

In agreement with the CPSC, Toshiba is urging customers to return any affected battery without delay. So, how do you know if you have an affected battery? The affected notebook-style computers were manufactured between June 2011 and January 2016. Another characteristic of the batteries, is that they are all made by Panasonic.

Toshiba has made it simple, to check and see if your computer has been effected. On their website, consumers have options to check their batteries, to see if it’s part of the recall. There are different ways to do this on the website, so the consumer has options. Finally, it’s important to note, that this recall affects batteries from Salt Lake City to Asia and applies to several models including the Portege, Satellite, Satellite Pro and Tecra models
