Top Reasons Why Your Resume Gets Rejected
‘Get your resume noticed!’ You must have heard this phrase a
lot of times, right? But has
anyone told you how? What should you do to get
your resume noticed? What mistakes should you avoid when building a perfect
resume? Don’t know? We’ll help you! Read on to find out the reasons why you
haven’t received a lot of wanted job offers yet:
Unnecessary Information
Have you read your resume as a hiring manager? Question yourself: Would you hire yourself if you were the hiring manager? If not, why?
These questions will help you to judge if your resume is good enough to grab an employer’s attention or not. Does your resume provide a lot of information? Check! If you are applying for the position of a project manager, including too much information about your experience in the finance department will not help. Edit and change your resume according to the position you are applying for.
Poor Formatting
Employers will not take the pains to read a cluttered document! They are short of time and will not bother spending time on resumes which are badly formatted. It is important for job hunters to make sure that they select the right document and format it properly so that the employer gets a proper view of the information you have included. Formatting documents in MS Word is not difficult, so make sure you know the right ways to do it!
Length and Readability
Lengthy resumes are not encouraged. We all know that hundreds of people apply for a single vacancy and each second is important for the hiring manager. Make sure your resume is short, but comprehensive. Ensure that your resume is readable! Do not change font frequently and do not bold or italicize too much! Follow one pattern throughout your resume.
Use of Vague Phrases and Words
Employers today are not interested in reading phrases like ‘my duties included’, ‘skillfully completed’, ‘extraordinary people skills’, ‘assisted people/manager’, ‘managed people’ etc. They are more interested in knowing ‘how’ you did them and what exactly did you achieve! Include dynamic words such as ‘constructed’, ‘coordinated’, ‘established’, ‘executed’, etc.
Changing phrases can build a much impressive resume than your current one!
