Government jobs are sought after in India. To be able to land a government job one has to sit for the SSC CGL examination. There are no fewer than 30 government jobs one can procure by way of the SSC CGL exam.

Assistant Audit Officer

From a CBEC inspector one can be promoted to an appraiser and then an assistant commissioner. The highest position one can rise to is Commissioner. 

Income Tax Inspector (CBDT)

An income tax inspector works under the control of the Central Board of Direct Taxes(CBDT), Government of India. 
Some of the functions of an income tax inspector are to go through and check if IT records of individuals and business organisations have been filed and are in order. Raids and lots of travelling are prominent features of this job. After starting out as an income tax officer one becomes an assistant commissioner. The highest post is that of a commissioner. 

Assistant (MEA)

An assistant is a part of the Ministry of External Affairs(MEA). This is an out and out desk job. One sees a lot of tasks such as typing, emailing and writing out reports. A big plus is the chance of a posting abroad is fairly high. 

Inspector (Preventive Officer) (CBEC)

This post is a part of Central Board of Excise and Customs(CBEC).  If one is up for a bit of excitement then the position of an inspector in the CBEC is suitable. 
One of the jobs is to prevent smuggling of contraband or anything illegal. Seeing if customs duty operations in airports and ports is up to scratch is another task. One’s career begins as a superintendent and the highest position is that of a commissioner.
 
• Assistant (AFHQ) 

This post is functional under the Armed Forces Headquarters(AFHQ). This comes with a lot of paper work such as writing out reports and files. Also, if there are legal cases an assistant has to keep an eye on them. 

A plus of this job is that there are many perks as the job also comes the aegis of the Ministry of Defence. Also, one is posted in Delhi or the metros. So, if one wants those richly-desired government jobs start preparing for the SSC CGL exam!
