With the written exam approaching near, you have to focus on four major sections: Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude (Maths), General Awareness and English. These sections will be there in Paper-I. Each of these sections carries 50 marks and the duration of Paper-I will be 2 hours. After having attempted Paper-I, you will have to appear for Paper-II, which will assess your English language and comprehension skills. Paper-II will have a time duration of 2 hours and a total of 200 questions.

However, for most students, the biggest challenge is the section on Quantitative Aptitude in Paper-I. If you also happen to be one of those who have a tough time solving quantitative aptitude problems, then you must follow the approach suggested by SSC coaching experts–

Master your Basics

In the quantitative aptitude section, you will be asked class 10th level questions on Arithmetic, Algebra, Trigonometry, and Geometry. Your first step should be to quickly cover the topics included in these areas. Once you have mastered the basic concepts, you will have to focus on improving your speed with further practice. Remember that an SSC exam is a race against time; in Paper-I you will have much less than a minute per question. In such a scenario, you will have to learn the quickest method of solving a problem. Thus, the knowledge of time-saving shortcuts and tricks becomes essential.

Make the Right Choices

Considering that for each incorrect answer .25 marks are deducted from your aggregate score, you will have to select those questions which can be solved accurately. This skill can be learned by taking an ample number of mock tests before you appear for the final exam. It is here that you must identify your areas of strength. In the exam you should give first priority to answering questions from these areas. Once it is done, you can take up those questions which are comparatively difficult and time-consuming.

Revise the Formulas

After having done all the hard work, you must make it a point to revise the formulas. It will ensure that you score some easy marks; in any SSC exam, there are bound to be some direct formula based questions. If you know the relevant formulas, you can get these questions right in almost no time. Besides the formulas, you must also learn tables (up to 30) and the values of squares, cubes, square roots & cube roots which are commonly used. This can do wonders to your calculation speed.
