1.               Start well in Advance:

First of all, studying abroad needs a lot of research, preparation, and documentation, so keeping all this for the last minute will put you in a lot of trouble. Therefore start well in advance and be ready get into the University of your choice without wasting time.

2.                 Research:

Overseas Education can be quite confusing and tasking. You will come across a lot of universities offering a lot of courses and different variations of courses. So, searching for the particular course of your interest is quite tedious. On top of it, to know the requirements and eligibility need effort. In addition, if you are looking for finances or scholarships you need to know whom and how to approach. So research well it will save a lot of trouble.

3.                 Know what you are looking for:

Many times lack of clarity is the biggest hurdle to choose a particular country, university or course. Therefore you need to have a clear idea has to why you are studying abroad. Is it to migrate? If yes! Is my field of study in demand there?  Or, is it just for a higher qualification with a foreign degree? For all these questions you need to have a clear answer.

4.                 Find out which country offers best of what you are looking for:

This point kind of goes back to point two of this writing. You need to research and know which country offers the best of what you are looking for. May it be a great qualification in your particular field of study, or it may be a country that is easy to obtain a PR visa or it can be a country that cheaper option in terms of study and living expenses.

5.      Talk to the Indian students who are already in the university you are targeting:

This is one great mode to find out about the country and the college you are applying to. These students would know a great deal about the college or the country as they have been there already for some time. They would be able to give you information regarding stay, food, faculty, teaching methods, opportunities and so on. So go ahead and talk and who knows you might even end up making good friends in the process.

6.       Know the requirements:

This is an obvious point but one needs to pay careful attention to it, as it can have lot of consequences with respect to adequacy of your application, sufficiency of funds to be shown, documentation, deadlines for application for admissions and scholarships; eligibility in terms of marks obtained, all these factors need to be kept in mind before applying and making sure you are on the right track.

7       Prepare:

Here I am talking about getting the passport ready well in advance to apply for the language proficiency tests, preparing for your language proficiency tests, getting Statements of Purpose and Letters of Recommendations ready, obtaining transcripts from your concerned universities, getting your financial documents in order as all these are basic requirements for study abroad purposes.

8       Apply for scholarships:

If you are a person who needs financial to realize your dreams it is better to apply for scholarships. Some of the universities offer even up to 100% scholarships depending on your profile. Also, some organizations in India offer scholarships for Indian students to study abroad, so do some research and apply. But, here one needs to apply early and needs to show he is a deserving candidate.

9       Find out staying options:

Once you have got your admission and visa and on your way to your desired destination with stars in your eyes and dreams in your heart it would bode you well to prepare a place to lay your head on in the place you are going you make your home for some time. So, find out and book places either on campus or off campus. But usually, if you are little hard on cash staying off campus, sharing room with other students is a good option in terms of expenses and experiences.

10-  Be ready to stand on your own:

I am sure not many of you will be taking your mother or the maid along with you. So, it would be wise to learn some basic skills of cooking, cleaning, using the washing machine or microwave oven will surely keep you in position once you are on your own.
