Tooth sensitivity is a common discomfort that affects millions of people across the globe. The good news is that this sensitivity is curable. But before moving towards its treatments, here is a quick look at the tooth sensitivity condition and its cause.

Tooth sensation

The root structure of tooth remains covered by gum tissue. Dentin, the layer beneath, contains millions of tiny tubes and each of these has connections to a nerve ending. When these tubes or tubular get exposed by gum recession (enamel erosion), the sensitivity takes place.

Many reasons account for this dentin exposure. Tooth grinding or receding gums are the two most crucial causes to create tooth sensations. Additionally, higher intake of acidic beverages can cause the problem too.

Another general reason for tooth sensitivity is overaggressive brushing. Hard and harsh strokes of brush can remove the gum tissue and leaves the dentin and tubules vulnerable. This, ultimately, causes tooth sensitive to hot and cold.

Handle the discomfort

The tooth sensitivity problem can result due to various reasons. Considering the factors first can help you handle the discomfort with more ease. Here are a few steps:

1. Switch the toothpaste

The foremost step in order to cure the tooth sensitive to hot and cold things is to change the toothpaste. Toothpaste that suits one may not be favorable for some other, so it depends on how your tooth responds to the toothpaste you choose. Many fancy types of toothpaste available in the market are also responsible for causing dental issues like sensitivity. Hence, you need to understand the therapeutic benefits of toothpaste or go for a doctor’s recommendation if you want to switch your toothpaste.

2. Focus on the toothbrush

You need to be very careful about choosing the toothbrush and avoid using hard-bristled ones. Opt for a brush, which can sooth your teeth well without rubbing them vigorously. If the bristles of your toothbrush spread in multiple directions, you are putting so much pressure on your teeth. Go for a convenient toothbrush option that can clean them smoothly.

3. Avoid acidic items

The higher consumption of acidic items causes tooth sensitive to hot and cold. Numerous beverages contain acids, which further results in sensitivity. You should start avoiding lemons, oranges and even the tomatoes too. This may heal your tooth sensation if the problem happens by these foods and drinks.

After pouring so many efforts, if the discomfort persists for more than three to four day, you need to consult a dentist. He would be the right person to suggest the best treatment for tooth sensitivity problem.
