Tony Stark Drives an Acura, and You Should Too
When asked their favorite part of a movie, most people will answer with a funny line or a cool special effect. Car enthusiasts, however, might have a different answer. Ironman has the sickest ride of all the superheroes in "The Avengers." In the popular superhero movie, "The Avengers" Tony Stark (Ironman), played by Robert Downing Jr. drives a souped up 1991 Acura NSX. What other car would you expect Tony Stark to drive?
Tony Stark is the coolest—there’s no confusion as to why so many people want to be like him. Some fans were surprised when they received the news that they couldn’t go to their local Acura dealers to test drive one of Ironman’s totally awesome cars.
The Envy of Starks Fans
After seeing the film, many people wanted to feel like Ironman, so naturally their first instinct was to go to their Acura dealers and get the same model as the one used in the movie. However, this wasn’t possible at the time. The car Tony Stark drove in 'The Avengers" was not yet available to the world outside of superheroes. Of course it wasn’t, it was custom made for the film with Ironman in mind. This NSX featured in the movie was something more of a preview of what was to be expected of the 2015 NSX.
Dave Marek, the division director for Honda’s auto design (Acura’s parent company) put a lot of thought into which vehicle would be used for Tony Starks’s sweet ride. "We knew it would have to be reliable for filming and we couldn't come up with anything that would be more reliable than an original NSX." In regards to the 2015 model, he added, “it’s not an exact copy, but it’s definitely inspired by the Concept car.”
The Next Best Thing
Although Tony Stark's ride isn’t available at your local Acura dealers, it is based off of the 1991 NSX with all of the features on the 2015 NSX. A combination of two impressive NSX models is one of a kind, but the next best thing is available to you. You can still feel just as cool and even heroic driving one of the previously mentioned models.
