Titleist ZM Irons and CB 710 Irons review
The Titleist ZM Forged Irons were designed with the better player in mind. Forged from soft 1020 carbon steel, they feature a high performance muscle back design, which gives the feel and workability that serious golfers are used to. Like the Titleist ZB forged irons, the ZM feature a unique Z muscle design, which works to distribute the weight of the club from the heel to the toe. What this does is to ensure that the CG is directly in the center of the face to give a solid feel.
The minimal progressive offset of these clubs allows maximum trajectory control and playability. Also, because of their narrow sole, the ZM irons reduce the amount of skipping on firm lies, and the appropriate bounce reduces digging. Also like the ZB irons, the ZM forged irons feature duel hosel lengths. The long irons have a shorter hosel in order to keep the weight on the lower part of the club for a better launch, and the mid and short irons have a longer hosel to add control and to manage the ball's flight.
Aesthetically speaking, the ZM Irons are a superior club as well. Designed for skilled golfers, they feature the classic, traditional appearance that more experienced golfers prefer. They feature a True Temper Dynamic Gold Steel shaft and a Titleist Tour Velvet Round grip.
All in all, the Titleist ZM Irons are a high performance, low forgiveness set of clubs intended for low handicap golfers. While largely unforgiving, they provide the feel, control, and workability that serious golfers are looking for.
The Titleist CB 710 Iron Set 3-PW with Steel Shafts has an optimized cavity shape and inner cavity muscle behind the impact area that provides a solid feel. The full cavity back set has increased inertia and more forgiveness versus MB while a lower cg on the long irons offers a controllable, slightly higher ball flight versus MB. A softer top line and rounder profile gives a classic, but contemporary appearance. A blunted leading edge and cambered sole provides smooth turf entry and release.
Not only do they look magnificent with their stylish chrome finish and traditional blade looks, softer, thinner top lines and smoother rounded profile, but they offer exceptional feel and performance that only truly accomplished players can really appreciate.
Forged from 1025 carbon steel, the Titleist CB 710 Irons inspire confidence at address, and have been designed to be slightly more forgiving than the Titleist MB 710 Forged Irons, as well as offering a slightly higher ball flight for softer landings with the longer irons.
Titleist have certainly done their homework with these clubs, by creating a set of irons for better players who still require a little bit of extra confidence in their game. The Titleist CB 710 Irons weighting system has been optimized to offer more forgiveness, lower the center of gravity and increase the moment of inertia. They have done this by creating a cavity muscle back to position more of the weight and mass lower down in the club head and more behind the impact area.
This gives golfers a soft yet solid feel at impact and provides consistent backspin, launch angles and ball speeds for precision distance and shot making control. Titleist have also made the leading edge a little blunter, this with the cambered sole promotes smooth turf entry and release every time. They also feature dual hosel lengths, with shorter hosel lengths in the longer irons to improve launch conditions and longer hosel lengths in the mid to short irons to help with ball flight.
