Tips for Cleaning and Maintaining Laminate Surfaces

by Ankita Sehgal Freelance Blogger, Lives in New Delhi
Laminates are amongst the highly versatile surfacing materials with a wide range of applications. They are widely used in interior décor. Whether it’s about furniture, wall paneling, or flooring of your bedroom, living room, bathroom, or kitchen, laminated finishes can help improve the aesthetics to a great extent. Available in a variety of finishes and colors, laminates are durable and inexpensive. They also have enhanced heat, impact, and stain resistance when compared to other expensive materials. However, it’s important that you follow proper cleaning and care instructions to keep them beautiful and long-lasting. Here are all the tips that top laminate suppliers in Mumbai such as Archidply, recommend:

General Tips:

  1. Although laminates are tough and can resist wear and tear, they can still get scratched by sharp objects. So ensure that you don’t use any sharp objects on them such as steel scrubbers while cleaning.
  2. Sunlight can accelerate the fading process in laminates. So make sure that your laminate furniture is away from direct sunlight to prevent discoloration.
  3. Dampness and moisture can damage laminated surfaces and cause warping. Protect furniture and floors from excess water whenever possible even while cleaning.

Laminate Floors:

Laminate floors exhibit a beautiful finish. However, they need to be cleaned frequently to avoid the dirt from settling on their surface and making them dull. They can easily be cleaned using a mop or a specialized solution meant specifically for the purpose.

  • Use a damp microfiber mop that not only picks up all the dirt but also requires less water than can warp the laminate floor. Do not use string or sponge mop that can leave streaky marks.
  • Polish or wax the flooring and try to avoid harsh chemical cleaner such as bleach, steel wool or scouring pads as much as possible.

Furniture:

Regularly dusting the laminated furniture using a soft cloth is enough to keep them clean. A microfiber cloth or a vacuum cleaner with a soft bristle brush attached to it serves the purpose.  Wet wiping needs to be avoided as much as possible as it can leave marks.
  • Use a soft dry cloth to remove fingerprints from laminates. For removing greasy fingerprints, use a slightly dampened cloth but ensure to dry the area immediately thereafter.
  • If you wish to use a mild cleaning solution, do not apply it directly to the surface. Doing so may stain your furniture. Spray the solution on a pad or cleaning mop first and clean the surfaces using the mop.
  • Do not allow water to sit on the furniture surface and try to avoid detergent-based cleaners that may leave a dull film on your furniture.
  • Use coasters and mats to protect your furniture from spills, stains, and excess heat for the ease of cleaning.
  • You can also seek the advice of a professional wooden door manufacturer in Delhi to know how to keep your laminates clean and shining.
