Choose The Right Footwear To Avoid Joint Pain

by Joseph Hawkins Marketing Manager

We’ve all been there when our shoes/heels start hurting when we are dancing.

And we have to carry our shoes in our hands, women would relate.

Which means women know how much it hurts when we don’t wear the right size shoe.

However, this stays true for all kinds of footwear, your office shoes, exercise shoes, and weekend- errand running shoes.

All of them can lead to pain if you aren’t careful.

Your footwear can trigger numerous kinds of pain in your body like-

  • Knee Pain

  • Foot Pain

  • Low Back Pain

  • Shoulder and Neck Tensions

  • Hip Pain

  • Headaches

Your feet are the foundation of your body and therefore, it is important to wear proper shoes as if you don’t that’ll cause discomfort all over your body.

We all love to wear flip flops, however,  they offer no arch support, heel cushioning or shock absorption while walking.

This strains the muscles and joints through the legs and the low back.

3 Ways To Choose The Right Footwear To Avoid Joint Pain

1. Get Your Feet Measured

  •   Feet change over time, with age, some ligaments and tendons become a little bit lose.

  •  Therefore, the feet shape changes due to factors like gravity and weight.

  •  Also, your feet change their shape during pregnancy, or if you have hammertoes, rheumatoid arthritis which causes joints to swell, or type 1 or type 2 diabetes.

  • So, if you are feeling any discomfort lately it is better to get your foot measured.

2. Walking Around In Shoes Not Meant For The Job

  • High heels are extremely tempting, aren’t they? However, they aren’t the right choice to walk 10,000 steps or walking around in your office all day or exploring a new city on vacation.

  • Your feet need proper arch support and enough cushioning for proper shock absorption.

  • Therefore, you know it isn’t the right choice to wear to work as it shifts your weight forward to the balls of your feet which puts too much pressure on your muscle and joints.

  • You should mostly ditch shoes once you are at your home, try walking barefoot around your house as much as possible.

3. Don’t Choose Running Shoes Based On Appearance

  • Well, we all are about the looks and that’s how we decide to buy a certain product in our lives or because a fitness Instagrammer told us to do so.

  • However, when in reality picking up the right shoe for the workout is a pretty strategic process.

  • You should always go to a specialty running or workout shoe store and speak with a specialist, you’ll have to brief them about the kind of workout you’ll be doing and how many miles will you be running, etc, etc.

  • If it is affordable consider having different sneakers for different workouts, believe it or not, tennis, basketball and even dance shoes are made with lateral support keeping in mind the side to side motion of the sport.

  • Forward priority is given to running or walking shoes.

So, if you are experiecing any discomfort you know what to do, you need to change your shoes.
