Three Reasons Why It’s Important to Create a Mobile App for Your Business
Mobile apps are expensive. A standard app will cost you around £10,000, and that’s usually just for a single platform, like Android or Apple. For some businesses, £10K is easy to come by, but for the small business, this might not necessarily be the case.
At such costs,
it’s important to weigh up the pros and cons of having a mobile app. Below, we
are going to explore three reasons why you should seriously consider a mobile
app for your business.
Reason 1: The Mobile App Market Is Going to Explode in the Next Five Years
The mobile app industry is growing rapidly. The prime time to create an app was last year, but now is better than never. Plus, those apps that they made last year are going to be outdated in the not too distant future: technologies march on.
Mobile marketing, which includes app development, is going to be key to growth. Whether your business is a restaurant or a retailer, it will benefit from a well-planned mobile app.
It will be increasingly important to choose an app developer that specialises in apps for your industry. For example, if you own a restaurant, you should choose someone versed in restaurant app development. They will have the knowledge and expertise required to create the perfect app for your field.
Reason 2: People leave websites that aren’t mobile friendly.
OK, you're probably thinking, “well that’s cool. We’ll just make a mobile compatible website”. But wait, because while that does appear a good choice on the surface (i.e. it’s cheaper than making an app, it will be more popular with people who are suspicious about downloading apps on their phones, etc.), it’s actually less straightforward.
Mobile apps are much more user friendly than mobile websites. They are faster to load and run. They are better tailored to the way people like to use their mobiles, e.g. they have optimally sized buttons (so you don’t press the wrong button and end up somewhere you don’t want to be), they have the correct “thumb zone” (so people don’t over extend their figures), and many other features that you can only achieve through software specifically tailored to the user, and in terms of business interaction, the best way to achieve that is through an app, and not a website.
As people become more familiar with mobile apps, we will witness a move away from suspicion (e.g. “why is this app asking for permissions?”), and a general acceptance of the market as a good thing. There will be some speed bumps – we’re witnessing some right now in the form of paranoia about security loopholes that hackers can crack – but once the technologies advance, these issues will be a thing of the past.
In short, mobile apps are here to stay, and they will become more popular. While they’re not yet essential to the success of your business, in the very near future, it’s likely that they will have a huge role to play in success.
