Three Reasons to Choose a K-12th Homeschool Program

by Tyler P. A Passionate Blogger - Entertainment
Some families know from the beginning that they are going to homeschool their children for all 12 years, others homeschool as a short-term solution and still other families want to try it out and see how it works before committing to it for more than a year or two. No matter which category your family is in, when researching online homeschool platforms, it is a good idea to find one that offers all grade levels.  While this may seem like a simple detail, the results of having to switch programs between elementary, middle and high school can have a negative impact on the child’s education no matter the reason for the change.

First, it takes time for parents to research the many online learning options that are available on the Internet. There are multiple factors to consider such as the program’s accreditation, cost, curriculum, state requirements and teacher/student relationship. By preparing, reviewing and comparing the various online options, the family should reach  a decision with which they are comfortable. And, if done correctly, the process does not have to be repeated at a later time simply because the student advances into a new grade or grade level (i.e. high school).

Another benefit of choosing a program with the best 1st grade homeschool curriculum that carries on into the following  grades is the  continuity of learning for the student. Homeschool programs take time to create the right curriculum package for each grade. Every year is designed to build on the prior one so that students have a smooth transition in each class with minimal overlapping and no gaps in concepts or information. If a program only teaches elementary, or stops at 8th grade, the student has to make a switch to a new program that may utilize different curriculum which creates uncertainty and a potential learning challenge.

The last reason to use a program with a consistent curriculum is more about the student than the education. Homeschooling is similar to every other form of education in that kids need to build confidence, self-assurance and trust in the teachers and material they are using. When a change in program or curriculum  is required, the established learning cycle is broken and the student has to spend time re-establishing these key relationships. Eventually learning how to work a new system brings understanding that they are able to do the work in this new program. Whether you decide to homeschool your child from the start or are looking for 8th grade homeschool for your teenager, the program you choose should go all the way to graduation so the student has peace of mind they are mastering the classroom and confidence in their ability to get the work done.

Some of the biggest concerns parents have about switching schools for their child are the reasons listed above.  These concerns do not change just because they are homeschooled. The online program becomes the student’s classroom where they interact with the teacher, grow their skills and develop their education. This homeschool program needs to be as stable as possible from the beginning which means using an accredited K-12 option.
