After this awareness programme last year, there were many people who had enrolled for yoga classes, power yoga and all. Well, we all know that India has maximum cases of diabetes, to be precise type 2 diabetes. It is becoming a rising concern for diabetologists to control diabetes (Diabetologist is a specialist who deals with diabetes and symptoms/problems/complications caused because of diabetes).

There are loads of medications which these diabetologist are practicing on patients and they are getting results too but diabetes is such a disease which requires to be managed rather than treated because treatment is quite difficult to deal with. There are lot many therapies and medications which diabetic people are living upon but out of these management tips, practicing yoga is coming up to be the most beneficial management tip. What accompanies diabetes? If you have diabetes, I am sure you can relate this well! It is a bit strange but yes, maximum of the diabetologists are prescribing some yoga asanas to their patients to manage diabetes well! Yes, allopathy doctors have changed their outlook towards yoga which is so far the best achievement.

Diabetes cannot be taken lightly, it needs a very strict regime in your life, a little here and there in your sugar intake can make your body go crazy! Fatigue, increased urination are some of the most common symptoms which needs to be controlled. Yoga is one such way which can help you go with your diabetes at ease! Yes, you read that right. Diabetes is a disease where body is not able to produce insulin hormone, either its secretion is low or either it does not gets secreted which means that sugar cannot be controlled or it has to be managed. Difficult because almost everything has sugar! So what are the yoga asanas which are approved by diabetologists and will help in managing diabetes well?

List of yoga asanas and their benefits in diabetes is mentioned below: -

  1. Gomukh asana (also known as cow head pose)

  • This asana works in 3 ways, it enhances digestion and maintains blood sugar levels by increasing the function of pancreas which produces insulin and along with these two it also helps in enhancing kidney functions, so it’s like a three in one package!

  1. Ardh matsyendra asana (also known as half fish pose)

  • Most of the asanas will help in enhancing pancreatic stimulation to secrete appropriate amount of insulin.

  1. Supta vajrasan (advanced form of vajarasan)

  • This asana also stimulates pancreas to produce insulin and manages blood sugar levels.

  1. Manduk asana (also known as frog pose)

  • This asana stimulates all the organs in the abdominal region which enhances digestion.

  1. Vrikshasana (also known as tree pose)

  • This is the most important asana which helps in controlling sugar levels and keeping you away from symptoms of diabetes and worsening the case.

It is also advisable to perform these asanas only after you consult your diabetologists and perform them in strict supervision of yoga experts to avoid any kind of posture injury.
