The charm of the Ruby gemstone is irresistible and why won’t that be? This alluring gemstone comes in furious red color, which reflects the power of the Sun itself. For ages, this gemstone has been extensively used not only for creating ornamental jewelry, but also for making weapons like arrow tips. Apart from these, the natural Manik gemstone has also been used for its transcendental powers. While this gemstone is considered to be a precious stone, it is quite costly. So, if you are planning to buy a Ruby, here are a few things you should consider while buying one:

·         There are 3 different qualities of Rubies that exist in the market; the first one is the commercial quality, which doesn’t cost much. The second or the fine quality Rubies is moderately prized and the finest quality Rubies can easily burn holes in the pockets.

·         While natural or original Ruby stone is usually preferred, the lab-created Ruby is sold at 85 to 90 % costs of the natural ones.

·         The darkness in color of the Ruby is directly proportional to its cost. This means that the pink colored Rubies are having lower costs and the dark colored Rubies have higher costs, when compared.

·         There are some points in the body of the gem, where the light doesn’t reach. These points are called extinctions and appear black due to the lack of light. More of the extinction points in Ruby mean it is of low quality.

·         The dark shades of Rubies have Extinctions and the lighter shades carry windowing. In this flaw, a part of Ruby seems to be transparent or less brilliant, lowering the value of the gem.

·         One of the most important things to be checked while buying a Ruby is the evenness of the color throughout the body.

·         Although, clear Ruby gemstone prices are quite high as these are preferred, but at times, some inclusions make them even better. The rutile inclusions of Rubies provide them with a beautiful sheen effect that enhances the charm of such gems. The famous Star Rubies are the result of rutile inclusions present in a star shaped manner.

While most of the Rubies are heat treated, the ones with flux healing are of the lowest quality, as the treatment provides temporary results
