Things to Consider When Designing a Kitchen
by Kevin Smith AuthorDo you know the key things to consider when designing a kitchen? This is
a question that professionals are frequently asked about. Designing a new
kitchen is more than selecting materials and style. If you already know that
you are interested in upscale kitchen designs in San Francisco, CA, then this
is a start. Knowing the style of kitchen you want to go for can help to cut out
a lot of options that won’t fit your desired style. However, there is still
more to consider than this. Here are some things to consider when designing a
kitchen.
Don’t
Feel Rushed
Remodeling and renovating can usually take longer than you initially
anticipated. Keep in mind that the design portion can take weeks. Once you
completely approve of the design, then ordering the different pieces for the
kitchen can take two to ten weeks or more to complete. The time it takes for
ordering can depend on if you require custom pieces. Also, since you are
designing an upscale kitchen, plan for things to take a little longer.
During your decision-making, it’s important that you don’t feel rushed
into choosing anything. This can lead to a mistake that you regret later, or some
small detail being overlooked. This is a large purchase. Take your time to do
it right. Details can make or break your kitchen.
Once you know the positioning of the items you desire to have in your
kitchen, then you can determine where the gas, water, electric, etc. should be.
This should be known before building starts.
Kitchen
Flow: The One to Three Step Rule
A poor kitchen layout will only frustrate you, and fast. The flow of
your kitchen is often seen as the most important design aspect. The flow, and
how you are able to get things done in your kitchen, the most efficiently,
wasting as little as your time and energy as possible, is key here. For
example, you don’t want to be making a cup of tea and have to walk from one end
of the kitchen to the other, just to get what you need to successfully complete
your cup of tea.
Even though, things should be conveniently located, you don’t want to
cram your space either. The ideal kitchen flow will connect the main parts of
your kitchen together, without the cramped effect or too much distance. The
working triangle model is often used here, but doesn’t have to be. The main
sections can include the stove, oven, sink, and refrigerator.
The ideal goal is to have these key areas within one to three steps
maximum, away from each other. It’s more than designing a floor plan, the
placement of your appliances and things you frequently use, is key for your upscale
kitchen designs in San Francisco, CA.
