Things Students Can Learn With Extra-Curricular Activities

by KOJARAM CHOUDHARY Ideal Education Point New Choudhary Public Senior

Learning means more than studying the subjects and topics to land a job or make a career. In real life, one also needs to have other qualities, which they need to start learning and implementing in student life to make them habitual. Schools have extra-curricular activities such as sports and cultural events to teach such qualities; these activities teach students things they can never learn from books. These are the things students can learn with extra-curricular activities.

The need for extra-curricular activities today

These days, children are behind screens more than they need to be, making them lazy and lacking life qualities. This issue increases the need for co-curricular activities nowadays.

Learning outside academics with co-curricular

The best thing is that you always have options when enrolling your children in one of the co-curricular activities, or older students can choose an activity for themselves. Also, whatever competition you register in, you will surely learn and master these life skills naturally without even realizing it.

Boosting creativity: Extra or co-curricular activities are more comprehensive than just sports. For example, music, dance, and drama clubs are a part of many school activities. They help develop their creativity and imagination, allowing students to learn to express themselves, think differently, and think out of the box.

Building self-esteem: When you participate in any co-curricular activity or competition, such as singing, you are on your own in a less intimidating atmosphere, which gives you freedom and confidence, which in turn boosts your self-esteem when you excel at it.

Enhancing social skills: Participants in the same activity, for example, drama, are like-minded. You all know what happens when like-minded people meet. They converse and enhance their social skills. It is helpful, especially for shy students or students who find it difficult to socialize, as participating in additional activities gives them a platform to interact with everyone around freely.

Practical skills: Scouting, guiding, and other group activities are perfect for teaching practical skills. These include compass reading, sewing, etc., helping the child become independent, a crucial skill in adulthood.

How to manage failure: Wise people say failure is integral to life. One must learn how to cope with loss and move ahead. But how will students learn this skill? The answer is participating in curricular activities.

Participation in co-curricular activities adds to the possibility of failure. For example, defeat in a debate, losing a dance competition, etc.

These are powerful learning experiences that shape the pupil’s future.

Experiencing failure helps students develop problem-solving skills and a never give up attitude.

It helps them grow into mature adults for whom failure is not the end but a step toward success.

Time management: You all know that as adults, you must manage the various aspects of your life, such as balancing your personal and professional life. For students, it's managing academics and activities in school. This skill nurtures you into a responsible adult with excellent time management skills.
