The Various Uses of Activated Alumina as an Absorbent

by Viraj Gandhi Alumina Balls - Standard Air Drying Solutions
One of the important features of using alumina absorbents is its unique quality of absorbing moisture and gases of all kinds that can impact the quality and purity of a product that needs to be packed and stored for a long duration of time.

The Significant Properties of Activated Alumina

It is known to be one of the best moisture and toxic gas absorbers on account of its porous nature that can absorb much more than its own size and weight. Another big advantage of using activated alumina is that it has a very high amount of crush and attrition resistance. Besides, its high surface area and capacity to absorb unwanted gases makes it a favourite in the use of the most demanding tasks of keeping moisture and unwanted gases away.

One of the main characteristics of activated alumina is that they can be obtained in spherical shapes of different sizes that adds to their resistance to crushing and make them a homogeneous and a very compact load setting solution for many drying and moisture removing purposes. It is important to note that despite all the different kinds of substances that the activated alumina may absorb, its basic structure remains the same.

A huge advantage that activated alumina has over the other drying agents is that it has a massive adsorbing capacity of unwanted moisture and toxic gases. Adsorption is a surface phenomenon, and the main reason for the use of activated alumina is that it has a large surface area compared to its unit mass and weight.

Another typical advantage of using activated alumina as a drying agent is that it has a very high hydrophilic character, making it a perfect choice in the use and manufacture of desiccants.

The Multiple Uses of Desiccants

Moisture, water vapour, odour and humidity can play havoc with a substance that needs to be kept dry. Alumina desiccants are very effective performers in this regard. Some of the important functions that these desiccants perform are:

  1. They are completely powder free

 2.  They remain neutral during adsorption and do not interact with the material they are protecting.

3.  Alumina Desiccants are known to be very high performers in the absorption of unwanted atmospheric pollutants on account of their high surface area.

4. They have a very low abrasion level and are well known to be extremely environmentally friendly.
