The Ups and Downs of Making and Releasing Your Own Music Albums

by Richa Jha Asistent Manager

There is little doubt that the existence of internet has made it easier to release your own songs online. Without the backing of a label, one can build a reasonably well career in the world of latest mp3. These are exciting times for musicians.

On the flipside, there are certain drawbacks to this lone warrior approach of doing self-music release.  The choice to self-release new all song has its ups and downs. Read these factors before you also decide to take the solo approach.

The Ups of Self-Releasing the Music Albums

1.     Right to Keep Your Rights:

·         Imagine a scenario where as a musician, one does not have to worry about confusing contract jargon, hiring lawyers, or signing an online music label for a very long-term contract and rights to your songs online.

·         You will keep all the rights to your compositions and decide how, when and where it is supposed to be used. Or, how much you will charge people for using it. The bottom line – you are not going to get yourself trapped in a bad deal.

2.     Retain the Moolah:

·         Here’s the bitter truth. Most of the seemingly successful musicians go broke in a short period of time. Not many people know this, but when someone records new all song for a studio or label, then they’re the last on the list to get paid.

·         Making your own latest mp3 release lets you get the biggest chunk of the pie. Sure, you will pay some cuts to those assisting you, but going solo will make you more cash.

3.     Stay or Leave on Your Own Terms:

·         Ask any person who has an experience of working in online music industry and with major labels. They will confirm that major labels can be extremely demanding. They could make you go back to the studio if you do any experimentation in the songs.

·         When you are in-charge, you can leave no space for an attack on creativity. You get to make the kind of English songs or hindi songs you want or what kind of stuff plays when your audiences listen mp3 online or decide when you want to release music albums for those English songs and hindi songs.

The Downs of Self-Releasing the Music Albums

1.     Your Pocket Could Get Burned:

·         Most of the established labels have existing relationships with manufacturers and PR companies. That gives the labels, reduced rates at stuff. As an independent worker, you may not get any relief or reduction for your latest mp3 resources orders

2.     Contacts May Not Be Enough:

·         If there is one thing that today’s online music makers need after money, is contacts. Labels have tons of contacts to promote their releases – media, agents, marketing team, etc.

·         Not having contacts right from the start of your career could make your job a little harder. However, in time one can build a series of connections.

3.     Be Ready to Devote Full-Time:

·         Making your own music release is a highly time-consuming process. Promoting the songs online, booking shows, giving press releases, keeping track of social media marketing – is a full-time job
