This place is the perfect example of what you have heard about Kerala.

Even the plain landscape in Kerala attracts more number of tourist places every year. And this one, the hill stations in Kerala are more beautiful than one in the plain landscapes.

The place Munnar is located exactly behind the famous hill station Kodaikanal in Tamilnadu. According to the geography both are existing in the same western gates but according to the states, they both entirely belong to the different states Tamilnadu and Kerala. Why I am saying this is to make you understand the different routes to Munnar from Tamil Nadu.

The one is from Udumalpet of Tirupur district. Udumalpet was once a Taluk in Coimbatore and later combined to Tirupur district due to the separation of the district. The another route is from Theni to Munnar.

Theni is the adjacent district of Madurai, and it has the route to Munnar which allows you travel through various gorgeous hill view, small temporary falls and green gardens.

When you look at the google map, you can understand the route between Munnar and these two towns. It somewhat looks like the triangle. This is due to the extension of western gates towards the east. This is where the Kodaikanal is located.

The Theni to Munnar route takes 76 KM long travel, and you have to spend 70% of your travel through hill road. There are a lot of ghost stories have been told by the people living there, but you do not need to scare about that. In between the travel towards Munnar you can have the chance to see wildlife animals.

The another route Udumalpet to Munnar has the distance of 80 KM. When you go to Munnar from Udumalpet, you can have the chance to see the Thirumoorthi Dam one of the famous dams along with temple. As most of the Hill stations in India, this is also created by British to stay there for their summer. British people are from the cold country so that it was hard for them to manage to survive in an equator countries like India. So whenever they established a British colony, they also had established a summer vacation place in the nearby hill station.

Munnar is one among those places. Later large number people were gathered to live at the same place as a gang to protect themselves from wildlife. Then it became a town.
