The splint Material-High in quality and material!

A Splint is a device used to hold the injured or fractured parts together in position. In dentistry it is mainly employed to bring together the fractured fragments of broken alveolar bone or maybe the teeth. It provides transient support to the fragments in case of an emergency. Splinting of teeth cuts off the tooth mobility and prevents its loss in the future. Tooth mobility is one of the indications for the dental splint. Looseness of teeth may occur due to primary trauma to the teeth or maxillofacial structure, which may be primary, secondary or combination. Primary trauma occurs due to excessive force upon the periodontal structure, secondary trauma can occur due to normal force applied upon the tooth structure which is periodontal compromised and in combination, excessive biting forces are applied to the compromised tooth structure. This way, when a person suffers from sudden injury or damage to the tooth and it needs proper support to keep it in a particular position, high quality splint material can be used. Getting much needed support also reduces pain and discomfort. Dental pillow boxes are also available for this purpose.
Two broadly classified approaches can be employed to treat the loose teeth. These include biologic approach and mechanical approach. Biologic approach involves fecund environment for the healing of laceration or reduction of periodontal width due to insult. Mechanical approach involves modification of the forces acting upon the teeth by using various appliances such as occlusal splints, bite planes, guards, etc. The splints can be of two types- temporary and permanent. Temporary splints can be further divided into two-extra coronal and intracoronal splints. In case of permanent splinting, the crowns are fused together permanently. Occlusal splints can be used in order to prevent or treat the parafunctional habits such as that of clenching of teeth during the night. Henceforth, occlusal splint is also called as a night guard splint or a bite guard splint. A proper diagnosis and formulation of treatment plan is compulsory before providing a patient with a splint. A variety of splint material is available for fabrication of a splint, it can be metallic, fibrous, thermoplastic, etc., the usage of each kind of material is handy. Cost varies as per the need of the material. Proper guidelines need to be followed before using these materials for the fabrication of a splint. Improper manipulation of the material may lead to the formation of a weak splint which may hamper the patient in the future and may yield unhappy results.
