The Secrets to Staying Productive While Traveling
Working as a clinician is never without its seemingly endless pile of work to be done. Some medical professionals are even on-call, keeping their lines open in case of emergencies. There's so much to be done that even if you go on a continued medical education cruise, you still have work bothering you.
CME cruises are designed especially to find that perfect balance between work and rest. During these trips, productivity is not an alien concept. If being productive while you travel sounds like a challenge, quit worrying. Here are 4 ways you can be productive while you travel.
Digitize Relevant Data
If you're packing as light as you can for a cruise, bringing your computer from the office is off the table. The most you could do is bring your laptop to catch up on work during your free time. Before you head out to sea, make sure you’ve got all the data you need.
There are online tools that can help you digitize your data. Tools like Google Docs syncs all your data in the cloud. Once the relevant data is online, it's easier to work on them from anywhere. Just pull out your laptop and chip away on work.
Make the most out of the time zone difference
Traveling far from home could mean that you may find yourself adjusting to a different timezone. Depending on where you are on the globe, you could be waking up very early, or sleeping in very late. If you want to be productive while you're traveling, make the most out of these adjustment periods.
If you woke up before sunrise, take the time to get some exercise or to meditate. On the other hand, if you've given up rolling over the bed because you can't get any sleep, read a book until you doze off. These activities usually stimulate the mind and help you get ready for another day of productive traveling.
Charge up while you're charging up
After a full day of lectures and excursions, it's time to charge up. Devices today are more reliable, they last longer and work more efficiently. No matter how they go, electric devices need to be charged at some point. More importantly, you need to charge yourself up as well.
Remember that the quest for productivity while you're away is not to be drowned in work while at sea. Charge up during the night, and while you're at it, charge up your electric devices as well.
Go Offline
Going on a continued medical education cruise is a good balance between work and travel. Since you're away from the office, you're obviously not expected to do as much work compared to being in the office. Take time to go look at anything else other than the tasks ahead. Go offline.
Spend a lazy day at the beach, get a drink in a cafe, go stroll on a rented motorbike. Getting some time away from work is proven to improve creativity and productivity. Perhaps the best way to be productive is to take a break from all the work.
