The Running Time of Animated Bible Movies

by amelia b. Seo writer

First in the long list of animated Bible videos, where the characters, usually a couple of twins, escape from their native country and travel over the vast sea. They eventually encounter difficulties on their journey and are forced to survive while also learning about the many things of the Egyptians. The plot is usually that they find themselves stranded on a desert island with no means to return home. As luck would have it though, God miraculously raises a sand ship from the bottom of the sea to allow them passage. Through the wonders of science and mathematics, they are able to sail back to land where their twin brother awaits their return.

The first animated bible movies to come to mind are Noah, and The Lion, the Scar and Mango. Although each film has its own unique style and takes a different view on the Old Testament story, they all nevertheless are faithful portrayals of the timeless stories. If I had to pick, I would definitely choose Noah and The Lion, the Scar and Mango.

For those who don't watch animated bible movies, they may be unfamiliar with the above two films. But no worries, because neither of these will lose any sleep, because in addition to their classic quality, they also have another great quality: the characters. In fact, almost every character in either of these films have a relevant background in the Old Testament that helps make them even more appealing to viewers.

No discussion on the best animated bible movies must leave out King's Choice, which takes place after the Great Flood. When the waters recede and the dead have been restored to life, only one man stands among the living, King David. He refuses to yield to the evil kingdom, and he ultimately wins the battle and holds the keys to the Kingdom of Heaven. As you might expect, this film is also among the very best biblical films you'll ever see!

Much like King's Choice, you will find that most of the animated bible movies that take place in the Holy Land deal with the characteristically unique views and settings of the Holy Land. Take, for example, Moetien, which actually takes place in modern day Israel. Here, the people are very secular in their outlook, and Moetien, the young and innocent prince, doesn't have to worry about following his religious duty to protect the Jews from their enemy.

Aside, from Moetien, another of the best biblical movies you can watch has to be The Nativity Story. This is perhaps the most well known of the biblical movies, and it tells the story of the mother of Jesus. As told by the Gospel, Mary was sold into slavery by an Egyptian prince, and her slave mother told her that she would have to marry a certain Prince in order to free herself and her son. Mary declined the offer, and as a result, she was thrown into a cave by the prince.

When I first saw The Nativity Story over 30 years ago, I had a difficult time trying to wrap my mind around the story. After watching the movie a couple times, I finally realized that the symbols of the mother and child used during the movie were real, and that they really did belong to the bible itself. In this film, you will also learn that the three wise men from the Bible went to Egypt to find the newborn Jesus and bring him back to the world. While most of the events that happened in the film happen after the Gospel, some actually take place before.

Many people like to watch animated bible movies, especially the ones dealing with the characters from the Bible. Animated movies have managed to reach the status of classic for many Christian believers. If you've never seen one, I highly recommend that you do. There are plenty of them out there, and they can be viewed from the comfort of your home. The running time never deters them.
