Have you ever been in a relationship where your partner seems to know what you want before you do? Because Netflix is an online service, it has the unique advantage of knowing exactly who its customers are, what they are watching and when they are watching it. This allows the company to understand individual preferences. This data is then turned into suggested TV shows and movies based on each viewer’s habits. 

Capitalizing on Television Bingeing

Speaking of habits, who hasn't felt the urge to binge on your favorite show or have a movie marathon? Netflix knows that many of its customers are fond of extreme TV watching and many do it often. They have pandered to those existing binge habits rather than trying to establish new ones. 

This is most evident in the way that Netflix chooses to release its TV shows. In a tactic worthy of professional marketing companies, the streaming service has released its unique, online shows with all episodes being available at once. This means that if you have the time, you can finish your favorite show in almost a single day. 

Netflix Creates Its Own Content

Initially, Netflix would only have shows that had long since ended and this often involved contracts and fees because the shows did not belong to Netflix. However, as most marketing companies know, this will only take your company so far. To be truly successful, you must have and produce your own content. 

Digital Marketing Innovator 

Of course Netflix still has shows and movies that are from a long time past, but since about 2012 it also has been producing its own TV shows. By creating shows like “Orange is the New Black” and “House of Cards” Netflix is able to personalize its shows to its audience, but it also doesn't have to pay any royalties or contract fees to anyone. It is safe to say Netflix is a digital marketing innovator.
