Memorials are important structures of the society. They have been made to remember any important person or deed which had been done for the good of the society. The city of London, the capital of England has many memorials which remember the famous and tragic people and events which have rocked the nation.

 

        Following are the important memorials in London:

 

a)    Memorial of 7th July-   This memorial has been created for remembering the 52 victims of the 7th July 2005 London bombings. The location of this memorial is to the east side of Hyde Park.

 

b)    Queen Eleanor Memorial Cross-   It is a replica of the Eleanor cross of the Middle Ages situated at Charing in London. It has been erected in the forecourt of Charing Cross Railway Station. This Cross was designed by Edward Middleton Barry.

 

c)     John Donne Memorial-    This memorial is a bust made of bronze of John Donne. The face of Donne is facing towards the east at his birthplace on Bread Street.

 

d)      National Police Memorial-   The National Police Memorial is a memorial located in the central part of London.  It is in the memory of about 4000 police officers who were killed while doing their duty in United Kingdom. 

 

e)      Lady Henry Somerset Memorial-   This memorial is also known as the Lady Henry Somerset’s Children’s Fountain. The listing of this memorial has been done on 24th February 1958. It is located in Westminster, London.

These are some of the important memorials which are located in London. These memorials serve an important role in making the people of London and those of around the world aware of the importance of the contribution of these people and events in shaping the history of London and of United Kingdom.   

 London is one of the most historic places of the world. It has a long history of royalty, of wars and of great events. London, being the capital of England exhibits the English history through the various monuments that are scattered throughout the English capital. These monuments are “History in Structure”. They are a symbol of British pride.

 

 

  In the various parks, there are memorials in London.   One of them is the Hyde Park. It is one of the largest and most prestigious parks of London.  Some of the monuments located in Hyde Park are:

 

a)     Achilles or the Wellington Monument-   This is an 18 ft Bronze statue of Achilles, who was the hero of Greece in the Trojan War.
