The Jet Systems of a Walk-In Tub

by Rob J. Quality Links

In addition to a door and other safety features, many walk-in tubs feature jet systems to help with muscle aches and pains. There are two jet systems that can be included in a walk-in tub. These systems are a water jet system and an air jet system. Knowing what each of these systems includes will allow you to choose the perfect tub for your needs. Here is some more information about the two jet systems available with walk-in bathtubs with a shower.

Water Jet System

A water jet system features a strong flow of water out of jets that will provide a massage-like effect for the person in the tub. This is a great option for people who suffer from muscle aches and pains as it will massage the muscles. An issue with this type of system is that the water is recycled before re-entering the tub. This keeps the pipes moist which can allow mold and bacteria to grow. This can be an issue for those that suffer from a compromised immune system, respiratory problems or are susceptible to pneumonia. If you do choose a walk-in tub with a water jet system, it’s recommended to include an additive that will clean out the pipes. It’s also recommended not to use oils, soaps, and shampoos while the jets are running since the water is recycled.

Air Jet System

When an air jet system is included in a walk-in tub, it will include more but smaller holes than one with a water jet system. The jets will push air through and into the tub but no water. This will result in a gentle bubbling of the water but will not offer the same massaging effect that a water jet system offers. While you won’t get the same massaging effect, there are some advantages to this option. Since air is coming out of jets rather than water, you won’t be receiving any recycled water into the tub. This significantly decreases the likelihood of a buildup of mold or bacteria. It also means that you can use most products that you shouldn’t use with a water jet system. It’s a good idea to check with the manufacturer to see which products are acceptable to use while the system is running.

These are two jet systems that can be included with your walk-in tub to make it a more enjoyable experience. With a full understanding of what they offer, you can determine the right one for your walk-in bathtubs with a shower.
