The History And Manufacturing Process Of Backhoe Loaders

by Tyler P. A Passionate Blogger - Entertainment
It is common to see a backhoe in almost every type of construction job. Their popularity can be attributed to its adaptability. It functions similarly to the front-end loader, however, the front-end loader is quite smaller. According to top JCB spare parts suppliers, other heavy equipments in the same category as the backhoe loader include the road grader which is fixed with a huge and sharp blade to smooth soil surfaces. Others include:

  1. The scrapper
  2. Roller compactor
  3. The bulldozer
  4. The crawler tractor
  5. The excavator
  6. The scrapper

The History of Backhoe Loaders

The history of these essential machines started in the early 1830s when the first dipper shovel was invented to excavate rocks and dig hard soil then loading them into trucks. The dipper shovel relied on the steam-powered engine and was then mounted on rails. The backhoe was then re-invented from the dipper shovel after the invention of diesel-powered engines. During the 1900s up to the late 1950s, the backhoe loaders were large and cumbersome and therefore only used to excavate trenches as well as dig drainage and other large-scale utilities. There are many top JCB spare parts suppliers that you can consult for all your construction needs and also when you need more historical information about backhoes. You can buy JCB spares parts from reliable online suppliers.

Raw Materials Used to Manufacture Backhoes

Many manufacturers of backhoe loaders buy the parts as sub-assemblies or smaller units that are partially assembled. The sub-assemblies are done by several independent companies that mainly specialize in making hydraulics and the fabrication of metals. The manufacturer of backhoes then purchases sub-assemblies such as the chassis, the driveline which comprises of the engine, front and rear axles and transmission. The manufacturer also buys the backhoe and the loader from another company. The hydraulic system is also purchased as a unit comprising of the pumps, hydraulic cylinders, and valves. The driving unit also referred to as the operator's station can also be outsourced from different suppliers.

The Manufacturing Process of Backhoe Loaders

Assembly of Different Components

The first step in the manufacturing process of backhoes is to receive and assemble the main sub-assemblies and other components. The process begins by taking all the components and placing them at different stations. The backhoe casting happens in a special computerized room to ensure that all the bearings and pivot points are placed correctly and accurately.

Painting and Curing

Once every component has been placed in its correct position, the machine is then directed to the painting and curing station. Two main processes go on at the painting station. First, the components are primed by the use of an electric deposition which applies a thick layer of protective paint. The next process is the manual painting which is done while observing where the paint is mostly needed and applying it.

Fixing the Radiator and Hydraulic Cylinders

After painting the machine is moved by a conveyor to the cylinder factory. This is where cylinder rods that are already prepared are fitted to the other components. The radiator is also fixed at this point and connected to the engine.

Final Process

The final process is where all the components are taken to the final assembly where each component is carefully examined. The electrical system is then fixed and all other systems are tested to ensure they are working properly.
