From Utah to the East Coast, video production is becoming more and more popular among corporations. Furthermore, as the world becomes progressively more digitally based, many young adults have become interested in video production as well.

In Montreal, Canada, many teens have joined the video production community and have shared their skills and experience with their communities. Spectrum Productions is an organization that creates camps and various opportunities for children and young adults on the autism spectrum. Although people in Utah probably haven’t heard much about this program, it is most definitely worth learning about.

Spectrum Productions is a unique and special organization, which is reflected in their mission statement:

“We are committed to providing quality experiences with film and media production to our participants through easy access to the tools, equipment and guidance needed to make personal and collaborative media projects.

Our Programs are designed to encourage and support the social, creative and vocational well-being of the youth we support. We believe that self-expression through media is a unique and accessible way to share interests, develop passions and foster social networks.”

There are individuals in Utah and around the nation that have an autism spectrum disorder. In fact, one of every 68 Americans are on the autism spectrum. Since there are a significant number of individuals influenced by this disorder, some might say that the U.S. could use more programs like Spectrum Productions. Their camps have a huge impact on the people who attend and similar organizations might want to consider making efforts to positively interact with individuals on the autism spectrum, too.

During a typical camp, children and young adults on the autism spectrum are given the opportunity to teach their video production skills to their other friends attending the camp.

Many people on the autism spectrum who attend camps put on by Spectrum Productions benefit greatly. For example, one young man recently spoke with a news reporter to give him some insight on his personal experience with the program. The camp alumni said,  “Now I’m producing and helping people with different projects as far as scripting and editing goes.”

According to the statistics mentioned above, autism is seemingly very prevalent in the United States. In Utah, there is an above average rate of individuals who have an autism spectrum disorder. Places all over America can learn from Montreal’s amazing and potentially life-changing program that’s focused on video production.
