For the past few decades, videos have dominated the media industry with new advancements released quicker than film-lovers can keep up with. For those whose love for video production burns hotter than the deserts of Southern Utah, it’s crystal clear why these developments take place. New technology brings better production and viewing quality.

Videos Before the New Millennium

The 1970s were a time not only for disco and flare jeans. It was also the time home video formatting began to take off. In the mid 70s, Betamax and VHS home videocassette formats were introduced to the markets. However, it took many years to gain popularity because of its high cost.

In the mid-1980s, video production took a major leap in releasing many feature film theatrical releases produced by major conglomerates such as 20th Century Fox and Walt Disney Studios. Many families from Utah to the East Coast did not own VCRs during this time making movie purchasing and demand very limited. However, once major films and television series became available on VHS in the 90s, home video-viewing became a popular activity.

Videos in the Early 2000s

In the mid-1990s, home recording devices became a household item to capture all of life’s special moments. Parents could now record personal videos of their children skiing down the mountains in Utah while on vacation. From this new technology advancement, families could begin experimenting with video production on their own.

The turn of the century introduced a new format of video, the digital video disc, more commonly known as the DVD. Theatrical movies, television seasons and other digital media productions were viewed at a higher quality and didn’t require the lengthy rewinding or fast-forwarding that VHS offered.

Present-Day Video

In today’s high-tech world, people have access to creating and viewing videos in better circumstances than 20 years-ago. From the introduction of companies offering online video streaming such as YouTube, Netflix and Hulu, effortless film-viewing is accessible to all citizens with an Internet connection.

With many smartphone cameras being built to create high-definition sound and image videos, film production has never been more convenient for film-lovers. Take advantage of your next trip to the national parks in Utah and create something unique the world will watch.
