The Do's and Don’ts of Heavy Equipment Rental

by Wave Construction Construction
It has been an enormous help in the construction industry to rent instead of buying heavy construction equipment. When you rent, you will get well-maintained equipment, and you won't have to worry about the upfront investment.

Follow these dos and don'ts when renting heavy construction equipment:

DO: Make the most of your equipment.

Make a time budget for your rented equipment. Having them lying around is just a waste of money and resources both on yours and the rental service’s part. If you have a project that lasts six months, but only need an excavator for the first two months, just rent it out for two months. Having the equipment stagnated in the area will heighten the probability of damage, plus, another person could be using it instead.

DON'T: Incompletely read the contract.

Before you pay for the equipment, make sure that you have entirely read and understood the contract. Ask all the necessary questions such as labor inclusions, delivery, damage and liability, additional charges, and the like. Make sure that there are no loopholes that will make you end up paying additional expenses. Don’t allow miscommunication to ruin your partnership and be the reason for your excessive spending.

DO: Create a rough estimate of your budget

Show your contractor a budget so they can present you with the appropriate packages for your budget. Customers of construction equipment rental in the Philippines are notorious for accidentally overspending because of not have a transparent budget for their rental needs.

DON'T: Ignore safety hazards.

Keep the construction site safe and the equipment apt for use. Large machines such as backhoes and excavators can easily cause damage to surroundings or injure people if safety is not taken account for. Ensure that unauthorized personnel stay clear of the site when in operation. For machine safety, keep them away from any hazardous materials and elements such as flammables or excessive humidity.

DO: Know what you need.

Only rent what is required of your project for obvious reasons. If you don't need a crane, then don't rent a crane. If you need an excavator, then rent an excavator. This saves you and your supplier plenty of time and trouble.

DON'T: Attempt to operate heavy equipment.

If you're not licensed to operate heavy equipment, then stay clear of them. Please do not attempt to operate them no matter how simple the procedure looks. Leave them to the licensed professionals who have the license and experience to do so.

DO: Familiarize yourself with the equipment

Even if you aren't operating the equipment, familiarize yourself and your site workers with how they work to avoid safety hazards. Never over or underestimate the requirement of the machine.
