The Benefits of Outsourcing Your IT to an IT Support Company

by Andy Morley UK Blogger
Running a small business can be difficult, you have to wear many different hats, IT being one of them. Every modern business needs to get to grips with IT and how best to use computers to make your company run smoothly and efficiently.

There are various things to consider with regards to small business IT support:

  • The Type of computer you need, windows based or Apple Mac
  • How much storage you require for your business
  • Is there a requirement to have 24-hour IT support?
  • What about backup, disaster recovery and security services?

You may be thinking "I'll just get my nephew or friend who is really good with computers"  - WRONG! You are responsible for the well being of your company so it's important not to overlook any aspect of running an efficient company. This includes safeguarding against cyber attacks from hackers which can cripple businesses in seconds.

The Type of computer you choose whether that is a Windows PC or a Apple will depend greatly on the type of work you need a computer for, if its simple day to day text processing or number crunching with a bit of web surfing the a low cost windows machine may be just fine. If you need to perform high end graphics work or video editing then you may be better to go for an Apple Mac.

How much data storage does your small business need? Should it be onsite storage or cloud based?

The data storage you require will depend on the type of work your business does. If it's mostly word processing or Excel sheets then a couple of terabytes should be plenty to store all your files, but if you are in an industry where there is heavy usage of graphics such as architecture or graphic design then you may need more than that and so this needs to be considered when purchasing computer hardware.

Do You Require 24-hour IT Support?

If your small business requires round the clock IT support because say for example customer service relies heavily on computers, then having someone come out at night time can cost a lot more money. It may make sense financially speaking to outsource these services to an IT company who takes care of everything through one monthly fee.

What happens if there is a disaster and your data is lost?  What about if your computer is stolen or you have a virus?

If disaster strikes and your data is lost, then the cost of recovering it may be prohibitively expensive. If an IT company has already taken care of backup and disaster recovery for you, that's one less thing to worry about.

A good IT company will assess the needs of your business and provide you with a tailored solution that meets those specific requirements. You are also able to set limits on how much is spent which can be really helpful if your budget isn't unlimited!

It's important for any small business owner to make time in their schedule for IT, it may seem like an inconvenience but actually it is one of the most crucial parts of running a successful company. If not outsourced then at least hire someone as part-time support - this way you'll always have someone there who knows what they're doing when problems arise.

Benefits include:

  • Having experts work remotely so no office space required.
  • More hours per day to concentrate on other aspects of running your business.
  • Freeing up time for you to do other tasks while the IT is sorted by professionals.
  • It's a one off cost with unlimited support and resources - in today's digital age, it doesn't make sense not to protect against cyber attacks or have backups just in case disaster strikes! Every small business needs access to IT services that are tailored specifically according to their requirements which an IT company can provide.

In conclusion outsourcing your IT services can save small businesses time money by relieving them from the pressure of having to know about all facets of running a business successfully - computers being just one example.
