A pie is a baked dish having layers of pastry dough that form a shell and have sweet or sour fillings. Pies can also be meat-filled, however, such pies are rare. Some varieties of pies include strawberry, apple, blackberry, cherry, cream, custard, key lime and lemon meringue.

Pastries are baked goods made with butter, sugar, shortening, flour, baking powder, and eggs. Pastries are often higher on fats content than bread. Different type of pastries includes Croissants and Danish pastry.
