From the early stages of civilization, human beings have been actively participating in various recreational activities. That tradition continues to this day, and many people often settle on a particular sport in which they feel comfortable. For anyone wanting to try something new, tennis is a wonderful sport that can keep one in good shape in addition to being fun. Contrary to the belief that it is strictly a country club sport, one can play tennis on a home basketball court or anywhere else for that matter.

Many people have similar thoughts whenever tennis is mentioned. Images of Wimbledon or country clubs may come to mind, but this sport is available to many more people than just the country club elite. Anyone can take up tennis, and people from all walks of life play the sport frequently. There are several public courts available for free use. Most of the time, these courts can be found at the local high school or even a nearby college. Some people may even have a home basketball court that can be used for multiple purposes. Because of this, one does not have to be a member of a country club to be able to play this great sport.

What makes tennis such a great sport? Just like any other sport, tennis provides opportunities to grow physically and to stay active and healthy. Unlike sports like football or soccer, tennis is an individual sport and not a team sport. Because of this, tennis is a great sport for those who prefer not to play on a team or who are more comfortable playing alone. One can practice on a multipurpose home basketball court by hitting the ball against a wall. Tennis offers the opportunity to practice by oneself.

Tennis has achieved the status of being a popular sport of choice for high school athletes. It is one sport that is great for both children and adults alike. Families can get involved in the sport and can even play games against each other. For children, playing tennis may lead to other interests that are healthy and worthwhile. All in all, tennis is a great option for families.

As one can see, tennis is a sport for everyone and not just the country club elite. Whether one practices on the multipurpose home basketball court or at a public court at the local high school. One never knows how far he or she can go with hard work and practice.
