How You Can Learn Olympian Skills on Your Home Court
Volleyball isn’t just a fun way to kill a summer afternoon on your backyard convertible home basketball court, it’s also an Olympic sport, and has been since 1964. The Olympian grade athletes will put the guys from Top Gun to shame, and your kids can get in on the action too. Here’s how.
Sportsmanship
An Olympic team consists of twelve players, all of which have to be perfectly in sync with each other in order to make the best of their skills. If a player can’t play well with others, then they can’t make it to the Olympics, simple as that. While the teams are split down gender lines in the professional ranks, its still better to learn how to get along with everyone, and your home basketball court/volleyball court is the best place for that.
Start Small, Win Big
Joining local volleyball teams and clubs is a great way to learn the subtle rules and strategies that your son or daughter will have to face when competing in the big leagues. As with any sport, many small rules are overlooked when being played on a home basketball court or the like, because the game is more focused on fun than where a stray thumb is placed. Have the team over to your own court, that way everyone becomes friends, and they get a place to practice without the rival team peeking over their shoulders.
Home Court Advantage
Being able to practice whenever you want is an advantage no hopeful professional athlete can pass up. Make sure to have your kid practice whenever they can on the home court, barring severe weather or homework. Join them in practices, after all, nearly every gold medal winner attributes the time her parents drove them to the practices to his or her success. Your kid could get your name in every sports paper in the world, all thanks to your at home volleyball court.
