Since the beginning of the cinematic universe we have witnessed fathers and sons bonding over playing catch in the backyard. It isn’t just a time to practice baseball skills that will land them in the major leagues.

Spending time on the home basketball court is an opportunity for sons to get what they need from their fathers emotionally.

Teaching Your Son What Matters

In a world where cash seems to rule everything, it’s easy for your son to feel forgotten. After a 40-hour workweek the only thing you want to do is wind down, forget working out.

By shooting hoops on the home basketball court, it’s the perfect opportunity to talk about values. Not only are you making your son feel like a priority, but also showing that family is the most important thing in your life. This can start a conversation of how he sees his future and what is most important to him.

Being Proud of Him

Having a weak relationship with your father can follow you throughout your life. Food and shelter aren’t the only things you need from him. Fathers mold their sons’ futures by teaching them right from wrong.

Yankees baseball star Alex “A-Rod” Rodriguez has come under fire after using steroids to enhance his performance. After heavy introspection, he came to the conclusion that if he had a father figure in his life he might have chosen a different path.

Running up and down the home basketball court can be a time where you let your son know you admire his athleticism. Outside of sports, let him know that he is leading a life you are proud of. His grades may not be perfect, but you can tell him how much you admire his work ethic.

 Show Him You Love Him

A father’s love can guide your child through life. Being involved in sports together creates an unbreakable bond.
