Taking a Look at the Growth of Solar Energy in Utah
Renewable energy may not quite be dominating the energy industry quite yet, but there’s no doubt that it is growing rapidly. And perhaps few areas are better examples of this than Utah. The desert state is seeing major growth in residential customers installing solar panels thanks to solar power loans, tax credits and other financial benefits, while renewable energy providers are also on the rise. Let’s take a closer look at the growth of renewable energy in Utah.
Residential Growth
While solar users represent a small part of Utah’s population, the Salt Lake Tribune has reported that the number of residential customers who rely on solar energy is increasing by approximately 30 percent per year. This growth has been stimulated by the availability of solar power loans, which allow consumers to more easily afford solar panel installations, as well as government tax credits that allow residents to receive a return on their investment.
The state has a current goal to use renewable sources in generating at least 20 percent of its electricity by the year 2025—a goal that will require many more to adopt renewable energy in order to be successful.
Solar Companies
As a desert state, many have long recognized the area’s potential for the implementation of renewable energy. It comes as no surprise that many renewable energy providers have sprung up in the state in recent years—and these companies are proving quite successful. For example, Auric Solar (which is based in Utah) was recently named to the Inc. 5000, in part thanks to its ability to help provide solar power loans to its consumers to make the switch to renewable energy more affordable.
While there is still much progress that needs to be made in the adoption of renewable energy in Utah and other parts of the nation, there is no denying that change has already begun.
