SWPL Round-Up - Rangers Beat Celtic to Go Top

by Mohamed A. mohamedali

Rangers took control of the Scottish SWPL with an easy win against Celtic, even with two matches postponed due to Storm Babet.

At 28 minutes, Amy Gallacher set Jacynta Galabadaarachchi free for her 13th goal of the season; marking their third goal of the afternoon.

Rio Hardy hat-trick

The inaugural Old Firm derby of 2018 was an exciting, tension-filled encounter. Both sides went into the match tied, with Rangers looking to find their footing after losing to Kilmarnock in their opening league game.

Hardy was an ever-present threat in the first half, hitting the crossbar with her attempt in the 19th minute and having a penalty appeal denied when she was brought down in the box while running through.

Kit Loferski and Natalie Ross both scored early on for Celtic, only for them to hit the post either side of half time. But in the second half it was all different as Israeli forward Liel Abada made it three with some poor defensive work from Rangers' defence allowing her to make it 3 goals against them!

Abada nearly added another goal, but her shot from close range was kept out by Butland's fingertips. But the visitors did not give up and Kyogo Furuhashi scored five times last season to secure victory with another brilliant strike that sealed victory.

Kirsty MacLean goal

Kirsty MacLean made her first team debut for Rangers against Celtic and immediately showed what she can bring to the squad with an outstanding goal from an unlikely angle in the middle of the park. Kirsty took a delicate touch to gather and finish from an inexact position before finishing from close range to score her debut goal for Rangers.
