Sunderland Beat Cardiff to Boost Play-Off Hopes
Sunderland maintained their promotion prospects with a 1-0 win against 18th-placed Cardiff on Saturday afternoon. With four points from two matches in succession, Tony Mowbray will look to build on that momentum in the final two matches of the season.
Norwich and Preston remain in contention for a playoff spot after both won their most recent games. A 2-0 triumph at Blackburn brought Norwich within one point of the playoff spots, while Preston are four points clear of relegation danger.

Dennis Cirkin’s third goal of the season
Dennis Cirkin scored his third goal of the season to give Sunderland a victory against Cardiff and boost their play-off hopes. The Black Cats took advantage of Cardiff's poor performance to move within four points of the playoff places.
Sunderland had the better of it throughout, enjoying most of possession and territory. However, it wasn't until the second half that they really started to come alive, with Kion Etete forcing Anthony Patterson into a save.

Amad Diallo also had a chance to score, firing over from the edge of the box when given space by Sory Kaba. But Cirkin eventually provided Mowbray's side with their only goal.
A listless, lethargic first half was an alarming sign for a team in desperate need of victory. Unfortunately, Cirkin had the easy task of tapping in after Alex Pritchard's free-kick came back off the post.
Cardiff’s Juan Cala sent off
Sunderland won 1-0 against Cardiff to boost their play-off hopes, with Dennis Cirkin scoring the only goal of the game at Stadium of Light. This win propelled Sunderland back into top six in the Championship with 18th-placed Cardiff now three points adrift of their hosts.
The loss was compounded by Juan Cala's red card for pulling back Connor Wickham in the first half. Consequently, he was charged with improper conduct by the Football Association, leaving him out of Cardiff's Barclays Premier League game against Newcastle next weekend and their opening two matches in the Championship.
After the match, Valencia defender Jose Gaya asserted he'd heard Diakhaby say Cala had "insulted him in a racist way." La Liga had asked the referee to investigate this incident and reports have now been shared with all parties involved.
