Structure and Application of KOSUN Drilling Decanter Centrifuge
Decanter centrifuge separation principle is to use high-speed rotating roller driven into the mud in the high speed rotating drum, mud was dumped into the wall to form a liquid circle, solid phased particles of liquid ring get greater than its own gravity for undreds or even thousands of times the effect of centrifugal force, will overcome the resistance of the slurry viscosity to the roller on the inner wall of rapid subsidence formed solid layer, liquid forming liquid layer.
The centrifuge is driven by two motors, master one and auxiliary one, of which the former and the latter drives screw propeller. After the machine is started up, the drilling fluids treated by desilter will be pumped to the narrow end of rotary drum via screw pump which will further push it into propeller. Then it will be thrust into the inner side of rotary drum via the holes of screw propeller by the high-speed rotation. At this moment, the rotary drum and the screw propeller will generate a 35:1 differential rotational speed as well as a centrifugal field where the solid phase will be rapidly separated from suspension due to their density and size differences. Then, the separated solids will move along the blocks of screw propeller to the narrow end of rotary drum and discharge from the round holes while the treated suspension to the broad end of rotary drum and discharge from elliptical holes of straight cylinder.
Generally, one oil drilling rig need at least two sets centrifuge (one high speed & one low speed). The high speed centrifuge can be used to cut mud weight and the low speed centrifuge can be used to remove big particles and recovery barite. The centrifuge model for high speed & low speed is different type usually, with different bowl size, different pulley, different belt, different motor (if it is motor drive), different control panel. That is to say, the decanting centrifuge engineer at rigsite should know both high speed model centrifuge & low speed centrifuge model very well. This require longer time to practice and shift from different models.
