Steel Making Process and Steel Products
by Anirudh Kumar professional WRITTERNowadays, steel making processes
can broadly be divided into two distinct categories, the oxygen furnace process
and the second is the electric arc furnace process. In the oxygen furnace
process, iron is mixed with different amounts of steel crap and then pure
oxygen is blown over it which causes a rise in temperature to approximately
1700 degree Celsius. At this temperature, the scrap melts, all the impurities
are oxidized and liquid steel is produced. On the other hand, the electric arc
furnace process is a bit different. In this, the existing steel (scrap) is used
and hence there is no requirement of raw material and its processing. The
electric furnace is charged with steel crap and the electric arc operates which
provides the heating the entire process.
The final stage of steel production
process is referred as the continuous casting process after which the steel is
forged to make a variety of steel products. Read on to know about them:
Hot Rolled Products: For making hot rolled
steel, a slab of steel is heated at more than 1100 degree Celsius and is then passed
between rollers. Here it turns into long and thin sheets and is referred as hot
rolled sheet. This hot rolled steel is widely used in making construction
materials as well as pipes in different industries.
Cold Rolled Products: When hot
rolled steel is made thinner at room temperature, it is used to make cold
rolled steel products. Hot rolling & cold rolling processes help in making
products that have wide applications. From auto frames to appliance and
barrels, cold rolled products are widely used these days across industries. For
buying the best quality cold rolled steel, it is advised to get in touch with
the top cold rolled steel suppliers
in India. JSW is one brand that you can trust for top quality steel and steel
products.
Coated Steel: Another steel product
that is widely used these days is coated steel. For making coated steel a layer
of zinc over the cold rolled product. It is used for making various office
equipment, high-end appliances as well as exteriors of the automobiles.
Electrical Steel Plates- For making
electrical steel plates, silicon is added to molten steel. It is used in making
motors and transformers.
Stainless Steel: For making
stainless steel, chrome and nickel are added to steel. This is done in steel
plants which are equipped with the required production facility. Stainless
steel is used for making kitchen appliances, roofs and exterior walls of
buildings and medical equipment.
