SSD vs HDD: What is better?

If you are going to buy a new laptop, you should check the specs like which processor, how much RAM, storage drive like SSD or HDD and how much storage space?  So, things metter when you are going to purchase a laptop. But the people are confuse between SSD/HDD Which Should I Buy and how it is going to affect to the overall performance of laptop. So, stick with this article and in the end you will know almost every thing about SSD & HDD.

HDD [Hard Disk Drive]:

HDD stands for hard disk drive. Hard disk drive is invented by IBM [International Business Machines] in1956. When it launched it got very popular and it became the preferred storage drive in 1960’s. When it first launched, it was larger in size but after sometimes when it got very popular among the computer companies, it gets samller in size and increase it’s capacity. Now, you will get HDD in very small size with large amount of storage space.

Basically, Hard Drive made up of moving parts. Inside, a disk covered in a thin material spins. This material is split into sectores. When some of the data is stored in it, the material is magnetizes in a certain way. Each magnetized sector will be in one direction or other, that is create the 1s or 0s of binary code for the hard drive to read. When the disk spins, small needle over the disk reads the magnetic direction and covverts it into the data you see on your screen like a pic!

Now, the companies produce hard drive in cheap prices. If you want to purchase a 500GB HDD, you will get it around $45-$50. Storage is very large in hard disk, you will find 2TB to 4TB hard drive in the market. But the problem occurs when hard drive has some inssue because as I said previous, it has moving parts in it, so sometimes it crashes & all your saved data will lost. Hard drive is mechanical device and moving parts has some friction loss because of that it produced noice when it’s running.

But the thing is, if you gets more storage in small price it should have some limitations. You won’t get a device which is aweosome, but the chances of it to get in low price is almost zero. But HDD is enough for them who plays with more data like videos & photos. So, they can make a back up of the data to HDD and create a free space on the laptop. So, it’s kind a good option for the students, editors etc.

SSD [Solid State Drive]:

SSD stands for Solid State Drive which is the latest technology of HDD. These storage devices invented in the 1970s but these drives are comparatively expensive. When it invented, some of the companies use SSD as a RAM which is used for quick access for temporary use. But when SSD size is an increase, the companies sell it as permanent storage drives. Nowadays SSD completes for HDD on each and every function. Almost Best Gaming Laptops have SSD to boot the performance.

SSD uses flash memory instead of moving parts. Flash memory is types of storage that needs no power to keep storage on the device. Flash memory is kind of flash drives but SSD is faster and very expensive compared to other storage drives. SSD hasn’t any moving parts so there is no any type of data loss problem or drive corrupt problem. The best part of SSD is, the read/write speed of SSD is 250mbps-500mbps which is way more than HDD drives. But SSD drives are more expensive with less storage space compare to HDD. There is no moving part available so SSD is work silently. If there is SSD available on HP Spectre or Microsoft Surface Laptop, the performance also boosts. You can edit 4k videos easy without any rendering, play modern demanding games smoothly. So, SSD also helps to improve the performance of the laptop. If you are going to purchase 128GB SSD it will cost you around $100 which is more expensive compared to HDD. That’s why manufacturers didn’t make larger storage SSD because capacity increases the cost of drive also increase.

No matter SSDs are expensive but the SSDs have many benefits. Techie or video editor or gamer need this type of storage drives for a faster experience.

SSHD [Solid State Hybrid Drive]:

Just imagine! If you got a faster drive with more storage at cheaper rates? Which is cool right? SSHD is the same type of drive which has the speed of SSD and capacity of HDD. SSHD stands for Solid State Hybrid Drive, is the hard drive which integrated with flash memory. When SSHD is running, this device determines what type of data is stored in which section. Like some of the data will accede frequently so it is gonna be stored on the flash memory for the quick response and remaining data will be stored on hard disk. So, the working principle of SSHD is very simple. The read/write speed is not more than SSD and not less than HDD.

So, I think I like this storage device compare to these two. Because I’m a guy who needs more storage space and faster experience at affordable rates. For a balance of storage size and performance, SSHDs are the best choice.
