The Specs Review:
The top surface is made of plastic with soft touch rubber coating on it. It has a diagonal pattern on it. To be frank, I don’t like soft touch rubber material because when it gets old, it loose scratches on it. So, built quality is okay. This laptop looks awesome. The bottom surface is made of plastics but there is no soft touch rubber on it. It has some ventilation ducts.
The screen is good & little flexible. Hinges are very tight and it is not one-handed open. Overall built quality is decreased compared to last year model & also price. So it is understandable. The display is 15.6 inch Full HD IPS UWVA anti-glare WLED-backlit & non-touchscreen. The resolution is 1920 x 1080. The display is pretty bright. It has bad color accuracy & viewing angles. I think this is the worst display I ever used! But you can upgrade to 4K IPS display to get better results. The webcam is 720p HD & It is good. It has real sense 3D camera for Windows Hello next to webcam.
The keyboard area has also a diagonal pattern on it. It has smooth surface instead of soft touch. At the top of the keyboard, there is a power button & speakers. The keyboard is good and it has red RGB lighting. Keys are good and key travel is also nice. It is very comfortable for typing. The number pad is at the right side of the keyboard. I like the keyboard. The trackpad is weird because it is wide and comparatively small. Buttons are hard and need more force to click. Tracking is decent and it doesn’t skip while using it. The overall trackpad is good & I like it.
The sound quality is not so good. It is loud but when you have at nearly maximum volume then it gets distort. So, I don’t like the speakers. The ports selection is good. On the right side, HDMI port, Ethernet port, SD card slot, 2 USB 3.0 ports & AC power adapter. On the other side, single USB 3.0 & USB 2.0, Headphone jack. There is no Thunderbolt 3 port. So, you can connect external displays & GPU.
The GPU is GTX 960M but you can upgrade it. The gaming experience is good. On the ultra setting, it crashes nearly 55-60 fps on demanding games. But for high-end games, on ultra setting, it crashes 40-45 fps. You have decreases graphics setting for high-end games. So, the overall gaming experience is good, but if you upgrade it to GTX 965M you will get awesome results. The cooling system is good and fans are also good and it cools very well. But fan noise is little loud compared to other gaming laptops.
You have to remove a couple of screws to get into. There are 2 slots of RAM and it is upgradable. There are 2 slots of memory drive. One is for SATA drive & other is for M2 PCI, both are upgradable. 61WH battery and it requires 2.5 hours to get a full charge. It gives awesome battery performance. 5-6 hours of battery life on 1080p display & 4 hours on 4K IPS display.
This is HP Omen 2016 model. It has soft touch material with decent built quality. 1080p IPS panel display is bad and I recommend upgrading it to 4K IPS display. The keyboard is good. It has red RGB backlight. It is comfortable for typing. The trackpad is good but the buttons are little hard. It has 2.6 GHz Intel Core i7-6700K & GTX 960M with 4GB of memory.
It has 8GB DDR4 RAM, which is upgradable. This base model has 1TB of a hard drive and 128GB SSD. Fans are very cool but the fan noise is little loud. The battery performance is awesome. It has 61 WH battery, which gives, on 1080p display around 5-6 hours and on 4K display 4 hours of battery life. It costs you around $900.
Customer Review Summary:
“I can use this for anything but gaming”
“Almost perfect”
“Is just what I was looking for”
Conclusion:
I like this HP Omen 15 laptop. You can purchase this laptop but before purchase, you have to upgrade some components like display, RAM & GPU. These 2 things you should upgrade if you want to purchase it. Overall it is a good laptop for gaming. And also it handles 1080p video editing very smoothly.
