Sri Lanka Visa and Passport Requirements

Passports:

To enter Sri Lanka, passports should have one blank page and be valid for no less than six months from the date of arrival.

 

Visas:

Visas to Sri Lanka are required by all nationals referred to in the chart above.

Tourists and business travellers should apply online through the Electronic Travel Authorization System (ETA) (www.eta.gov.lk) and pay the requisite application fee. It's recommended that you apply before you travel; there is an ETA desk at the international airport where you can apply on arrival (credit cards or US Dollars only), but you could be subject to long delays.

 

Visa note:

Nationals not referred to in the chart are advised to contact the nearest embassy or high commission to check Sri Lanka Visa requirements for Sri Lanka.

 

Types and cost:

Transit visa: free; double-entry tourist visa (ETA): US$35 in advance or US$40 on arrival; multiple-entry business visa (ETA): US$40 in advance or US$50 on arrival. Children under 12 are exempt from paying a visa fee for stays of up to 30 days.

 

You can also apply for a visa through the embassy/high commission. The fees are as follows:

Tourist visa: £40 (up to 30 days); £110 (30-90 days).

 

Business visa : £45 (up to 30 days); £80 (30-90 days, single-entry); £115 (30-90 days, double-entry); £150 (30-90 days, multiple-entry).

 

Validity:

Transit visas: two days; double-entry ETA tourist visa: 30 days; multiple-entry business visa (ETA): 30 days; tourist/business visa from embassy/high commission: 30 or 90 days.

 

Application to:

In person at the nearest consulate (or consular section of high commission/embassy) or online.

 

Working days:

The ETA tourist visa generally takes two days to come through.

If you apply through the embassy/high commission, allow four working days for visa processing.

 

Extension of stay:

Visitors can request to extend their ETA by applying to the Department of Immigration and Emigration . This is issued at the discretion of the authorities who must be satisfied that the applicant has sufficient funds and holds an onward or return ticket for travel.
