Malaysia visa for Indians: Everything you need to know

Malaysia is one of the most visited countries from India. Getting a visa to Malaysia is easier than you think.

From the turquoise waters of islands like Redang to iconic structures like the world’s tallest twin towers, Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia is a delight for all kinds of travelers. Over the past few years, more and more Indian tourists have been vacationing in Malaysia. Here is all you need to know about getting a visa to Malaysia:

 

Visa type:

Since 1 October 2015, Indian nationals have been granted visa on arrival facility to enter Malaysia for tourism purposes provided:

1. They enter through Singapore, Indonesia or Thailand only

2. They enter via KLIA / LCCT / Penang Airport / Senai Airport / Kuching Airport / Kota Kinabalu Airport only

3. They pay a visa fee of  $100

4. They carry a minimum of $1000 in cash

5. They have a valid visa for Singapore or Thailand with valid return ticket;

6. The visa will be valid for only 7 days of stay in Malaysia.

 

 

No matter what kind of visa you are applying for, you will need the following documents:

1) A passport with at least three blank pages and a validity of more than six months from the date of your arrival in Malaysia

2) Three recent passport-sized photographs taken on a white background

3) Confirmed return ticket with flight details

4) Copy of Singapore visa if your port of entry is Singapore

5) Bank statement of the last three months

 

Kindly note that the list of documents might vary according to your application center. The applications can be submitted at the visa application centers in Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, Chandigarh, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Pune and Ahmedabad.

 

Visa fee:

For a visa on arrival, the fee is $100. A multiple entry 12-month visa fee for Indian Nationals to enter Malaysia is Rs 1000. This is in addition to the processing fee charged by agencies.

When to apply:

If applying in advance, it is safe to apply for a visa to Malaysia at least 1 month prior to your date of travel. The processing time for your Malaysian visa is typically around five days.
