Some Top Coffee Producers Of The World

by Acm Aust CEO
With a cafe on almost every nook and corner in a number of cities around the world, it comes without surprise that coffee is a top commodity throughout the world. As the third most consumed beverage of the world, after tea and water, coffee beans happens to be in high demand all over.

Second only to oil, coffee is considered as the second most traded commodity in the world, with half a trillion cups being drunk every year. Not only utilised to brew a cup of joy, the coffee bean offers caffeine for pharmaceuticals, beverages and cosmetics.

Given below are the names of some countries, which the International Coffee Organisation mentioned in its coffee production statistics 2014 as the top producers in the world.

Brazil: Brazil is seen as the leading exporter of coffee in the whole world. They produced 2,720,520,000 kgs of coffee beans. This is however not something new because the nation has been the highest producer of coffee beans throughout the world for more than hundred years.

Coffee plantations cover 27,000 sq km of Brazil approx. with majority situated in Sao Paulo,  Parana, and Minas Gerais where temperature and climate are best for producing coffee. Brazilians even process coffee with dry process where coffee cherries are basically dried in sun other than being washed in wet process.

Vietnam:
Vietnam is regarded as the second largest coffee producer in the globe with 1,650,000,000 kgs being produced in 2014. Coffee was a big part of Vietnamese economy even when there was a hiatus during & after the Vietnam War.

Columbia: Being popular worldwide, Columbia is the third largest producer of coffee with 750,000,000 kgs of coffee beans. But the temperature nowadays is playing a negative role in production. From 1980 to 2010 it has been seen that both the rate of precipitation and temperatures have been slowly rising  jeopardising the climatic requirements needed for producing the kind of bean preferred in Colombia.

Indonesia: Although not known internationally as top producers, the nation produced more than 540,000,000 kgs of coffee beans last year. As the country's climatic condition is suited better for producing lower quality Robusta beans quantity over quality is what they have opted for. A high quality coffee, which Indonesia is popular for is Kopi Luwak. Coffee plantations presently cover about one million hectares of the territory of Indonesia.

Ethiopia, India, Mexico, Guatemala and many other nations follow the list. Australia has even experienced significant increase in coffee beans production since 1990s and is selling coffee beans online. Moreover, with the high demand of quality Arabica coffee, which Australia produces, there is a potential for the nation to become a specialty boutique coffee producer.
