Some primary obstructions one might face while adjusting abroad
Leaving your
dear ones behind to settle abroad is probably a hardest thing to do. But then
everyone have their reasons to do so. We move onto a foreign land for reasons
which mainly include studying, a satisfactory job, a good pay and a bright
future. At times a need arises to bring down our old parents for being their
partner in the lonesome stage. However, a situation corps up, when a new NRI
fails to overcome the cultural and language barriers. He has to endure with the
cultural shock and altogether different environment. Adapting to an all new
culture and society is surly difficult, but has to be done to survive and
settle down.
Paper work
and all other formalities relating to migration can be taken care of by the
companies providing services to NRI in India.
But the emotional distress that an NRI face at initial stages had to be handled
by him on his own. Indians feel isolated in the western habitat and sometimes
find it hard to subdue the language gap at initial stages. The mood might
prevail even after a considerable time of stay. Hence, it becomes burdensome
and stressful to converse with local residents.
What makes
it awkward for an Indian to deal with the foreign ways of lifestyle? Below mentioned
are some reasons:
1. 1. Feeling of self-isolation is natural to occur. It is very ordinary to be
obsessed with the tendency in the early period of settling down. We don’t get
to see our family and kindred people. But then, it important to beat the
feeling if you don’t want to form a habit of staying aloof on the western land.
Thus lose your hood and shun the stand alone notion.
2. We try to stay extra cautious believing that western society will corrupt our soul
and pull us away from our own cultural norms some of which had to forgotten and
forgone to put a strong foot ahead. It is not asked to forget who you are. But,
don’t bar the habit that will help you to get habitual to the society from
making a space in your mind and heart.
3. You ensure yourself that you are not
going to stay there for long. You plan to go to America earn some bucks and
return back. So you feel like not learning anything about the country and way
of living. Hold on there. Not many NRIs return back to India and so called temporary visit becomes permanent decision
to settle.
4. Comparing America and India is what most of the NRIs tend to do. One just cannot stop
living in the past which is the major hurdle in habituating to the cultural
difference. It is ok not forgetting about the old delightful days but not
advisable to live in them.
5. Not breaking your comfort zone would be of no help. Bring into action the ethics of karma.
Don’t just sit with your fingers crossed waiting for something good to happen.
Stop playing the blame game and encash every single opportunity.
6. Keep yourself away from English media and you have no idea what American ideologies are all
about. Thus you are not exposed to language use and fluent communication.
